Getting Back In… Some Mother’s Day Links
The one percent were out of the office yesterday so the internet beckoned me to surf it. I answered the call. As a result, I have so much to share that this blog will most likely implode from the surprise usage.
First, Happy Mother’s Day even though I don’t really recognize it as a holiday (partly because I am motherless and partly because it’s a marketing ploy) and neither does Anne Lamott. If you’re a writer and you haven’t heard of her, pick up a copy of her book Bird by Bird. We all need a little support sometimes and she’s amazing. You’re welcome. Go here to read her exquisitely crafted essay on why she raised her son to NOT celebrate Mother’s Day.
Second, hello. You should be loving your mother EVERY DAY and if you must do something tomorrow, try celebrating ALL WOMEN. Just because she hasn’t given birth doesn’t mean she hasn’t touched the life of one child or many!
Also, Tina Fey is a mom in case you’ve been living under a rock for the last several years and didn’t know that. Go here to read the prayer/letter she wrote to God about her daughter. It’s heartfelt and, of course, hilarious. It is excerpted from her book, Bossypants.
Third and last, let’s all congratulate Ryan Gosling’s mother in our hearts while watching him refuse to eat cereal. I promise you will laugh yourself into a headache. Note: It might take a minute to load but it is WORTH IT.
Now get out there and love up your favorite person with a vagina!
